Our inspiration and impact
Oasis Community Group was founded by Steve Beer, an active local volunteer, who was inspired to create a "breathing space" for individuals in Devon facing major health issues. He recognized the profound isolation experienced by people living with dementia, depression, mental health struggles, and the after-effects of a stroke, as well as their families. Steve's vision was to build an environment that replaces clinical pressure with genuine human connection.
The core mission is to offer local residents a warm, friendly, and entirely pressure-free environment to foster well-being and community spirit. We aim to provide a safe haven where people from areas like Pinhoe, Broadclyst, and surrounding villages can find respite and support.
The feeling we hope you experience
When individuals leave a session at Oasis Community Group, organizer Steve Beer wants them to experience relief and a profound sense of "breathing space" from their daily challenges. For those living with dementia, depression, or the lingering after-effects of a stroke, life can often feel high-pressure and intensely isolating. Our explicit goal is that members leave feeling lighter, supported, and socially connected, completely free of clinical or social expectations.
Our core benefits include a true emotional and mental respite from the exhausting daily management of a chronic illness, and experiencing the warmth of simple conversation without any "pressure."

The ultimate dream is to create an interconnected community network where no resident in Pinhoe, Broadclyst, or the surrounding villages feels isolated or cut off because of their health status. We aim to embed the concept of pressure-free, non-clinical spaces into the fabric of local well-being, proving that community integration and simple human conversation are powerful tools for managing life-altering diagnoses. Our focus is on building sustainable voluntary networks to ensure this vision endures.

What we learn through our experience as part of local neighbourhoods, we apply to the most pressing challenges we see. From youth justice to the root causes of homelessness – we work to find new solutions that really improve people’s lives.
For far too many people and communities, our current systems are not working. We need to invest in new and better ways to overcome exclusion and injustice. We’re not a think tank – we’re a do tank. Our approach is to work with funders, communities, partners, and local and central government to innovate, pilot, and prove that new solutions are possible. Together we can imagine better and build stronger!
